Pregnant Women Not Recieving STD Tests Before Childbirth

Many pregnant women are not receiving important and require sexually transmitted disease testing according to this story over at FoxNews.

Out of nearly 1.3 million women in the US who had blood work done during a pregnancy only 59% were tested for Chlamydia. Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease that can cause complications during pregnancy.

This contradicts the overall recommendation that pregnancy women get tested for Chlamydia before giving birth.

The CDC recommends that all women should be tested for Chlamydia at the first prenatal visit.

Gonorrhea is also recommended for screening if the women is at increased risk. This would include younger women and those living in areas with high rates of Gonorrhea infection.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can be screened for through private STD testing companies such as Test Me STD. They provide testing nationwide for all major STDs and HIV.
